Our team of diamond drilling contractors worked on a critical infrastructure project at Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral. Kelly’s, our client, instructed us to drill through 500mm of concrete footing so that they could install new drainage for the hospital. This required precise core drilling by our team of contractors, to ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations, whilst also maintaining the structural integrity of the building.
To drill the required holes through the concrete footing, we began with a site assessment to determine the optimal drilling locations, and ensured that all necessary safety procedures were in place before starting to drill.
We used our 300mm core drill bit to drill through 500mm of concrete footing to create passages for the new drainage lines. Throughout this, we employed precision techniques to avoid damage and destruction.
We chose to use core drilling for this project as it offers several advantages for drilling through concrete footings.
This method creates precise and clean cuts, whilst also ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding structure and maintaining the integrity of buildings, meaning that it was the ideal choice for this healthcare project.
Core drilling is also highly efficient and versatile, capable of drilling perfect holes of various sizes and depths, which is important for projects such as this one where utility lines needed to be installed.
This technique also generates much less noise and dust compared to other drilling techniques, enhancing safety and reducing the impact on occupied buildings. Core drilling is also faster and more cost-effective, saving time and labour costs while delivering high-quality results. Its ability to penetrate reinforced concrete with accuracy demonstrates its effectiveness for challenging construction projects, such as hospital environments.
