Diamond Drilling and Floor Sawing at Arrowe Park Hospital

Kelly Contracting

The Project Brief

Unfortunately, in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, many NHS hospitals are still struggling for space and resources. It’s for this reason that we are very proud to have recently worked on the renovation of Arrowe Park Hospital in the Wirral. With the goal of creating more room for patients by extending the building and renovating the original elements of the structure, our client Kelly Contracting required our commercial diamond drilling and floor sawing services.

Being specialist concrete contractors based in Warrington, Cheshire, we were very happy to assist with this local project, and also did our best to ensure that noise and mess was kept to an absolute minimum to avoid disruption.

Keeping it on the down-low

As this project involved working in a busy hospital environment, we took extra care to ensure that we kept our noise levels as low as possible whilst working, so that we did not disrupt the patients in the area.

Fortunately, diamond drilling and sawing tools are actually much quieter than alternative concrete cutting techniques. This is due to the extreme hardness of the diamonds which are at the tips of the drill bits and saw blades, which help us to cut through tough materials such as brick, asphalt and reinforced concrete with ease and precision.

Diamond Drilling

To minimise the amount of noise pollution impacting the hospital wards, we started out by using our diamond drills to cut perfect holes across the trenches, which would later guide our floor saws. This is a technique that we use often to prevent overcutting of materials, and it is ideal for completing jobs with extreme accuracy.

Floor Sawing

After this initial diamond drilling on the edge of the trenches, we then used our electric floor saws. These specialist tools can cut to depths of up to 700mm, making them an effective tool for projects both commercial and domestic. After our cuts using our electric floor saws, we then used our battery powered and electric hand saws to cut into the areas we couldn’t reach. This process, and the diamond drilling of the trenches meant that we achieved the accurate cuts our clients required.

Our Clients’ Feedback

Completed efficiently and with ease, our client Kelly Contracting was very satisfied with our work as they were able to easily remove the concrete from the trenches. Got a project in mind?
